Five Tracks: IDRISS D

Drum & bass and jungle specialist Idriss D continues to impress by pushing his bass-heavy club sound through releases on his own Memento Records imprint.

Previously the label has seen productions come from names like Dino Lenny, Eduardo De La Calle, and N-Gel, alongside original music from the Italian-based label owner.

The next outing to come from both artist and label arrives towards the end of October, as he drops the 50th Memento release in the form of his ‘Lunatic 2’ EP – which brings 2 new tracks as the original version is met with a remix from Gilb’r.

He joins us for this months edition of Five Tracks, where he highlights music from Origin Unknown, Dark Globe, TSHA, and others. Get the full list, including words from Idriss D himself below.

Origin Unknown – The Touch / Valley Of The Shadows
Label: Ram Records

“Mentioning two drum and bass and jungle masterminds. This is one of the best. Origin Unknown is a duo comprising Andy C and Ant Miles. It’s a necessity for the wax bag. Hypnotic and full of energy all at the same time. They have influenced the jungle scene in the UK since some of their first releases.”

TSHA ft. Mafro – Giving Up
Label: Ninja Tune

“She is a genius. Such a great artist, producer, and DJ. A Burial style intro on this track and then it comes with a phat trip. Who better than the legendary Ninja Tune to sign such a big talent and record. This label was and always will be an avantgarde platform in my eyes.”

Idriss D – Lunatic
Label: Memento Records

“This was my first release titled ‘Lunatic’ in the EP series. It was also my first Jungle project, released on Memento my label in 2020. Remixed by the great DJ Sotofett, it was an honour to have such a big artist on the release, as he’s also known for not doing many remixes or collaborations. The music video for this was done live by the great L4artiste in the Moroccan Desert.”

Kai Alcé – Space Skat N Dat
Label: Toy Tonics

“This one is a Nu-jazz breaks track. Released on Toy Tonics, we can feel the black soul music influence and funk. I can play this at the beginning, middle, or end of a set and it always makes me smile. A really classy tune that’s always in my bag.
”

Dark Globe – Take Me To The Sound
Label: Royal Ace

“A second masterpiece for the list. It’s not really Jungle, but it’s breaks. I discovered this track listening to an old essential mix from the great Howie B. I highly recommend it for club culture fans and keep it on your radar, as I’ll soon announce some news about Dark Globe!”

IDRISS D – Lunatic 2 EP is out October 27th on Memento Records.
