Irish group Give Us The Night campaign for more relaxed licensing laws among other things, and will tonight meet to discuss multiple issues including licensing laws and possible closure of popular venues.
The group posted an open invite to club managers and promoters to come together and look at possible solutions and obstacles. Irish DJ and GUTN member Sunil Sharpe said the following: “in recent years there’s been no political will to even look at our licensing laws, let alone talk about them or say they’ll do anything about them”.
The nightlife scene of both North and South Ireland has been under consistent pressure and threat for a number of years, halting or even reversing development in several industries and could even be seen as under lock and key when compared to cities such as Amsterdam, Barcelona and Berlin.
