Emerging Malta-based DJ and producer Husko leaves us heavily impressed with the release of his new Disco-tinged studio single ‘First Love’.
Following outings on labels such as Mark Knight’s Toolroom and Monki’s &Friends, as well as Another Rhythm, the developing talent drops the track on growing label District Records.
Talking to him recently for our Inflyte Radar series, we got to ask Husko all about the new track, where he turns for inspiration, what else we might see from him in the near future, and what he hopes to accomplish in the music industry.
Hi Husko, you’re on our Inflyte Radar this month, tell our readers what you have been up to recently?
Hey guys, thank you for having me! I’ve been really busy working on some original material and working with musicians to try and create something a little special. We will hopefully see some of it come out at the end of this year or beginning of next.
You’re about to release your new track ‘First Love’ on District Records, how would you describe the production in your own words?
I wanted ‘First Love’ to be a sort of follow up to ‘Goodnight’, which was released early last year. Think of big day time disco vibes made for the summer season.
And why release it as a single and not an EP with other originals or remixes?
Sometimes the attention gets divided when there are multiple pieces of work on one release such as an EP. Especially since the label is still new, we wanted to focus all our effort on the original mix and see where it goes, who knows, maybe there will be a remix later on down the line?
You’ve previously released music on labels like Another Rhythm, Toolroom, and &Friends, what else can we expect to come from you soon?
I’m a big fan of sampling disco and will keep releasing such material, but as I mentioned above, I want to focus more on original music and that is the direction I am heading. I have some exciting projects coming up, but I’ll keep the announcements under wraps for now.
Do you have a ‘dream label’ that you hope to release with some day?
Dream label would definitely be under the Defected brand especially seeing where my new material is taking me.
You’re still very early on in your career, but what’s one big goal you hope to accomplish?
Establish my name across the scene and start getting gigs abroad for sure.
Where do you typically find inspiration for studio sessions?
It’s pretty random nowadays. I’m a big fan of all that is soul and funk to be honest, so I sometimes sit down and just listen to a laid back set and it gets me inspired.
And what bits of software or hardware are you using most at the moment?
I’m pretty basic when it comes to hardware and software, I just need my trusty computer and Ableton.
Thanks a lot for talking to us, anything else to mention before we wrap things up?
Thank you for having me! I just hope that everyone enjoys ‘First Love’ as much as I enjoyed making it, good hands in the air vibes!
