Kendrick Lamar could find himself paying out a lot of money following a claim from British-Liberian artist Lina Iris Viktor. Viktor claims the video for Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s latest collaboration ‘All The Stars’ copies her 24-karat gold, patterned works from her Constellations showcase.
The song is included on the soundtrack for Marvel’s Black Panther film, featuring the first black superhero to appear in the mainstream comic world universe. Lina said in a letter to Top Dawg Entertainment that Marvel reached out twice to use the work but she denied permission. She is asking for a full apology and a license fee.
Viktor – “It’s an ethical issue, because what the whole film purports is that it’s about black empowerment, African excellence – that’s the whole concept of the story. And at the same time they’re stealing from African artists.”
You can find Viktor’s work HERE, and see the allegedly plagiarised work from 2:59 in the video below.
