Over a decade of experience with his Boriqua Tribez alias allowed techno producer Uncertain to tap into an existing knowledge base that has seen him since release with labels like Christian Smith’s Tronic, and Dense & Pika’s Kneaded Pains.
Now just a couple of years into the life of Uncertain, the passionate studio wizz brings his 10-track debut artist album, Expose. The record comes via Complexed Records, and as expected delivers a robust and heavy set blend of techno sounds.
We caught up with him to chat about the new release, how he picks which labels he works with, whether we’ll see a remix EP for the album, and more. Get the full discussion below.
You just released your new Expose LP on Complexed Records, why was it the right time for you to release an album?
When I first started the Uncertain project back in 2018, I had this vision of doing an album in the near future. Since I didn’t release one under my past moniker ‘Boriqua Tribez’, it was only a question of time; moreover the current situation helped me finish this project earlier than expected.
And how did the project come together? We assume you produced it during lockdown?
Production started in 2019, and during the past 2 years loads of crazy things happened which resulted in a very diverse album, like a rollercoaster.
An album is a very personal thing, how did you decide to trust Complexed to handle it properly?
Arnd (Drumcomplex) is a good friend of mine, he has supported me from the very beginning and liked the idea immediately, so it was an easy decision.
In the past you’ve also released on labels like Tronic and Kneaded Pains, what do you look for in a label when considering them for a release?
First and foremost, the music – Kneaded Pains for example is a label with no such restrictions. I love their policy of releasing different styles of techno, rave, tribal, deep, etc. That being said, I’m glad to announce I’m returning soon.
Do you have a favourite label of all time?
So many of them, let’s say one of my favourites for sure is Axis Records, by none other than Jeff Mills. This guy has always been a visionary, I can’t remember how many times I dropped those bits in my sets. I bought 3 copies of each release back then.
Are there any plans for a remix EP of the album down the road?
There are plans indeed but no details yet, nevertheless it’s hard to choose as there are so many talented artists out there.
And what other projects can we expect to see from you in the near future?
Well, I’m currently working on stuff for the likes of Truncate, Paco Osuna, and S-File, plus some exciting collaborations as well.
Thanks a lot for taking some time to speak to us, before we go, what’s your favourite track on Expose?
Impact – love the energy! Thanks for having me!
Uncertain’s Expose LP is out now on Complexed Records.
