Parisian duo Birds of Mind have been carving a unique path through the European club scene in recent years, with their emotive soundscapes and deeply curated sets.
Known for releases on record labels like Kindisch, Knee Deep In Sound, and Get Physical Music, the pair are now back with a new VA album: Body Language Vol. 25.
This instalment of the legendary Get Physical series sees Birds of Mind blend nostalgia with fresh inspiration.
We caught up with the duo amidst their current tour in Mexico to talk about the new album, their vision for the series, and their evolving journey as artists and label heads.
Where are you right now, and what are you up to?
We’re currently touring in Mexico. This Friday, we’re playing for Incendia, and on Saturday we’ll perform at Papaya Playa in Tulum. After that we’re heading back home to Paris.
You’re about to return to Get Physical for the release of ‘Body Language Vol. 25’ – what was your vision for the project heading into it?
Our vision was to produce an album that pays tribute to the deep house vibes of 2011-2013, especially the legendary bassline energy from that era. We aimed to create an album you can dance to in clubs, but also enjoy while listening at home.
It includes an even split of five originals and five remixes, was that intentional?
Yes, it was intentional. Selecting five original singles and five remixes from the Get Physical music catalog was a decision we made together with Philipp Jung. It took some time to go through the catalog, but we already had a few memorable tracks in mind that we wanted to adapt.
What’s been your favourite album in the Body Language series before now?
It’s really hard to say – there have been so many great artists curating this series of albums. We have very different opinions about which ones we like best, so we prefer to say that each album is deeply personal to the artist behind it, which makes every instalment unique.
In the past, you’ve released music with labels such as Kindisch, Knee Deep In Sound, and of course Get Physical. What are the main things you’re looking for in a potential record label partnership?
Every label has its own kind of signature. As your music evolves, it’s important to work with labels that align with the style or genre you’re exploring. Being part of a label feels like being part of a family of artists and a larger movement. That’s what we look for in a label.
And which other labels could we hear you on soon?
We’re happy to share that we have some exciting releases lined up for 2025 on our label, Mindgame Records, as well as a massive remix of Me Gusta on Azzur.
Birds Of Mind – Body Language Vol.25 is out November 29th on Get Physical Music.
