Inflyte Radar: Momoda

The latest club prospect to come across our Inflyte Radar does so in the form of Barcelona-based DJ and producer Momoda.

His inaugural career release ‘Beam Me Up’ comes via Squire’s ANIMS imprint, and delivers three fresh productions with two originals and a great emix from Darlow.

We spoke to Momoda about the new tracks, his thoughts on Darlow’s edit, what else we can expect to hear from him soon – and more. Read the full interview below.

How are things in the life of Momoda right now?

Right now things are great to be honest, releasing my first EP last month was a big milestone for me. Other than that I’ve been spending a lot of time in the studio, playing every week, and next month I’ll be touring in Morocco for Moga Festival, and doing headline shows in Marrakesh and Rabat. I’m very excited about what’s coming.

You recently debuted on ANIMS with the release of your new ‘Beam Me Up’ EP – talk us through the two original tracks on this one?

This is one of the first projects I started working on at the beginning of last year, I wanted to create a record that I could play during my sets, I had just bought a new synth, pushed the MIDI notes of a guitar riff to the synth and started running through the presets, after a bit of tweaking I got to the sound in the main break which I thought sounded epic. So I built the record around it.

I kept it pretty simple with ‘Nordic Lead’, starting with a piano hook and then slowly adding the other elements, keeping it instrumental, atmospheric, and melodic with nice lush pianos.

And it also features a great remix from Darlow, how did you react to hearing it for the first time?

The remix from Darlow is quite different from the original – it’s like having another track on the EP.

Which other labels might we expect to see you release with soon?

In terms of what’s coming up, well I hope to release on some of my favourite labels, so many good ones, but off the top of my head I’d say, Diynamic, Nervous Records, Rekids, and Innervisons.

You run parties yourself under the brand Superfekta – what can people expect from a Superfekta party?

Superfekta is our weekly party at Ocean Club on Balmes, here in Barcelona. We book a mix of established DJs and up & coming artists with some of our favourite Barcelona and Spain-based producers and DJs. The formula is… great music and a nice crowd. If you’re in Barcelona come say hello, we go every Saturday night.

Anything else you want to mention?

Just a big thanks to the Anims team and especially Jaime for believing in my music.

Momoda – Beam Me Up EP is out now on Anims.
