Interview: Bauchamp

The latest sound to drop from Swiss DJ & producer Bauchamp arrives in the form of his new ‘Foolish Touch’ EP, which alongside the original title track also includes a ‘Redux Version’ and an instrumental edit.

The 3-track offering finds him make his return to French imprint Argent Sale Records, a label which sits in his catalogue amongst the likes of Raoul Records and Made To Play.

We recently got the chance to speak to him about the release, why he decided to include three different versions, what he has coming in the near future, and more. Get the full discussion with Bauchamp below.

Hi Bauchamp, how are things down in Switzerland at the moment?

It’s the beginning of summer here. A beautiful period in perspective: festivals, spritz, swimming, bike rides, I am preparing the sunniest playlists to warm up the dancers.

You recently released your new ‘Foolish Touch’ EP on Argent Sale Records, talk us through the original mix in your own words?

It is precisely a piece for the summer, bright, romantic, sunny, naive, and cheerful. A baroque pearl. The track is built on a solid sample, two or three synths, and the freshness of Pilar’s disco voice.

And the release also includes a ‘Redux Version’ and an instrumental, what’s your reason for including those?

I was playing the instrumental in my live act for a while, adding a synth solo. There was good energy but something was missing to really make the track take off. With the voice and words of Pilar, a certain narration began to be embodied in the tracks.

You’ve also released music with Raoul Records and Made To Play in the past, which other labels might we see you release on in the near future?

I have a very close relationship with Argent Sale Records, who are really angels. And also the Italian label Eroi Elettrici Dischi.

Is there a label you hope to work with in your career?

Studio Barnhus, Cuttin’ Headz, Colors Records.

Where do you turn to most for inspiration when going in the studio?

The Clash, The Streets, old school house music.

Your track ‘Calypso’ has been streamed almost 40 million times on Spotify, what advice would you give to anyone that wants to aim for that kind of success?

Whoa, I really don’t feel like I’m in a position to give advice. If you have any, I’d love to hear from you.

Anything else you want to mention before we wrap things up?

Thank you very much for the discussion.
