British trance artist Ben Gold has been at the top of his genre for years, releasing his uplifting-brand of melodic trance on record labels like Armada Music, Garuda, and ARVA.
His latest studio effort, ‘How You Feelin’, welcomes his debut on Bebé, and brings filtered pluck melodies and driving basslines to the Ben-Hemsley-owned imprint.
We spoke to him about the process of making the track, how 2025 is going for him so far, and more. Read the full discussion below.
How are things in the life of Ben Gold right now?
Life is great! I recently played at the biggest trance party on the planet, A State Of Trance, where I premiered twelve unreleased tracks, including ‘How You Feelin’. I put a lot of work into crafting a set that was 87% unreleased music, and I’m really happy with how it went down and the incredible response it received.
You’re about to debut on Ben Hemsley’s Bebé for the release of your latest single ‘How You Feelin’ – talk us through the process of how the track came together?
I had just moved into a new house in the Netherlands when I wrote the riff for ‘How You Feelin’ in my living room, since my studio wouldn’t be ready for a few months. I had a really good feeling about it from the start. A few weeks later, I set up a temporary studio in the spare room and got back to work on it. The track came together quickly because I knew exactly how I wanted it to sound. Then, just when I thought it was finished, I found the vocal – and that was the icing on the cake.
How did you come to sign the track with Ben and Bebé?
I sent the track to Ben on WhatsApp, and he played it that night, or maybe the night after, at Amnesia Ibiza. He posted a clip on Instagram, and the place was absolutely going off. The crowd went wild! He kept playing it on his Radio 1 residency and hammered it in almost every set. Naturally, he wanted it for Bebé, and I was buzzing about that.
We’ve seen you work with Armada Music and it’s many sister labels quite a lot over the years, what’s been your favourite thing about being a part of the Armada family for so long?
My favourite thing is the freedom they give me to express myself.
What’s one club or festival you’re really looking forward to playing this year?
I’m excited to be back at Creamfields UK this year and continuing my yearly All Night Long residency in Montreal, Canada.
And do you have any pre-set rituals before you head to the DJ booth?
No I don’t think so. I guess I remain chilled, calm and focused. Oh, and to make sure my shoelaces are tied tight enough haha! Yeah, they came undone once and I stacked it basically.
One bold prediction for 2025?
Trance is gonna be bigger than ever!
Anything else to plug before we finish up?
Maybe me and Ben Hemsley are working on a collaboration? Maybe.
