Interview: Die Selektion

German electronic trio Die Selektion offer fans an additional assortment of club edits for tracks taken from their 2023 studio album ‘Zeuge aus Licht’, which came out on their own Der Katalog imprint.

The release includes three edits in total, and adds to a catalogue which has also seen outings with Iptamenos Discos and Aufnahme + Widergabe in the past.

We spoke to Die Selektion to ask them about the new edits, how 2024 has been for them so far, and what else they might have coming soon. Read the full interview below.

How has 2024 been for the three of you so far?

It’s been fantastic! We played a bunch of shows all over the world to promote our latest album ‘Zeuge aus Licht’, which came out in September 2023, including our first ever tour in Canada. We also started working on a new album. All in all great!

You’re about to release three club edits for tracks from your 2023 album ‘Zeuge aus Licht’ – how did you go about choosing which tracks would receive edits?

Die Selection has always been a project that dives through all styles of electronic music, from minimal synth to EBM and new beat to techno and wave. The last album was probably our poppiest record and we felt the need to deliver dancefloor friendly versions of those tracks. The choice came pretty naturally, we had certain ideas of how we wanted the edits to sound and the chosen tracks worked best.

And what can people expect to hear on the three remixes?

Three tracks combining our mix of trumpets, German vocals, and hard-hitting beats – surrounded by various synth layers and EBM basslines. All in all a more clubby approach to our tracks than the album versions.

You’ve previously signed music to labels like Iptamenos Discos and Aufnahme + Widergabe, which record labels might we see added to that list in the coming months?

We are thankful for the labels that worked with us in the past but we wanted to try something new. Before the release of the last album, we went completely independent and founded our own label called Der Katalog, on which we reissued and pressed our entire back catalog, the Club Edit series will also be released on our own label and we will probably continue to release there.

Working as a trio, how do you balance things like studio sessions or live sets? Do you each bring strengths and weaknesses to the table?

As we’ve known each other for more than 15 years, the work is very honest and very natural. We simply know our strengths and weaknesses very well, which is very important when you work together as a band. The working environment is also very respectful and we try out almost every idea.

And what’s one big advantage to working as a group versus being a solo artist?

The exchange of ideas and the opportunity to get different approaches and contributions to the songwriting process never gets boring.

What’s been one of your favourite tracks of 2024 so far?

Years of Denial have released a fantastic remix compilation. The Phase Fatale remix of their track ‘City Lights’ is an absolute anthem.

Is there anything else you want to mention before we go?

Check the new Club Edits, the perfect soundtrack for your warehouse rave, yacht party or disco dungeon.
