Interview: Flashmob

Flashmob is a name synonymous with authenticity and innovation in the European club scene. The Italian DJ, producer, and record label owner has built a reputation for crafting straight forward house music, and fostering fresh talent through his Flashmob Records imprint.

We caught up with him to discuss his latest single ‘Serious’, which is a collaboration with Oxylion & Danger on Adesso Music, as well as his approach to choosing the right labels, and what else we might hear from him in 2025.

Where are you right now and what have you been up to today?

I’m in my lounge, and it’s the end of a nice and productive day for me; earlier I went out and about in my home city Milan. I’ve been taking some time off after four really intense days in London for the Beatport Instagram take-over visiting Defected, Armada, DJ Mag, and Juno – and then doing a nice production writing camp at the Toolroom Head Quarters in Maidstone the day after.

You just released your new track ‘Serious’ on Adesso Music, how did you come to collaborate with Oxylion & Danger?

The girls are wonderful human beings, and we met when they came to see me play at Studio 338 in London. We became friends and started sharing music! It’s very easy to connect with such great people and talented musical heads, and we also have very similar taste.

And why release it as a single with no b-side or remixes?

I’ve always preferred to go with single tracks in my releases right from the start of my career. If a track is strong, why add one next to it? I know labels often want to do that, but when I can choose, I go solo.

In recent years you’ve also released music on record labels such as Snatch!, Get Physical, and Toolroom, what’s your typical process in getting your music signed to the right label?

Depending on the musical panorama, I try to associate with the labels that are closer to my sound. Adesso is a label I play, respect and love a lot, and Junior Jack is one of my favourites, so it was a no-brainer for me.

Which other record labels might we see you on soon?

On my own label with a Barbara Tucker remix I recently finished, that’s pretty much all I can say for now. But I am going back to my roots so you probably can imagine what to expect.

On the topic of Flashmob Records, who can we expect to see releasing on the label in the near future?

I always have some fresh and amazing talents on the label. I’m going to do a best of 2024 with Cinthie, Kolombo, Audiojack and Huxley – to name a few that are gonna be on it. And then I have new singles from Oxylion & Danger, Channe & Emma Clair (including a D. Ramirez remix), WeMart, Baustaff and Delistic – to name a few.

One thing you’re excited about for 2025?

I can’t wait to start touring again in the USA with my new agent and management team from Adapt Music. I also can’t wait to see this new wave of music I’m making be released. I’m excited for what’s coming.

Is there anything else you want to mention before we finish?

Music is a medicine and a very noble form of art. Let’s give it the importance and respect it deserves as a cultural movement; it needs to be brought forward by the right people!
