Phil Kieran has always been known as a reliable source of quality Irish music, both for his work under Phil Kieran and with his band Le Carousel. Now Phil has opened a new chapter in his story, one that will see him work alongside the Ulster Orchestra as well as local musicians Eoin O’Callaghan, Leon Crockett and Neil Burns.
The project is backed by the European Orchestra Laboratory, who Phil is now an official ambassador for, and will include a performance at this years Celtronic Festival in Derry, Northern Ireland where he will perform alongside a 12-15 piece chamber orchestra.
Phil said: ‘Although there are a lot of good reinterpretations of dance music by orchestras and vice-versa, this collaboration has given us all a chance to share expertise and write pieces, from scratch, that could equally be performed with a synthesised sound or its equivalent acoustic instrument. It has both dance-music and classical sensibilities at its heart’.
Having been working together at Celtronic Studios, a number of tracks have also been recorded between the previously mentioned artists, you can get a short preview of ‘Nikoman’ by Phil Kieran and Eoin O’Callaghan below. The Celtronic 18 line up will also include Or:la, Ryan Vail, DVS1, Avalon Emerson, Rival Consoles and Paula Temple among others.
