Resident Advisor have just made a surprise announcement concerning their end of year polls, for some very interesting reasons. Recognising that the polls are no longer an accurate reflection of the diversity of the global electronic industry, RA have taken a huge stance to help redress the balance.
“At best, the lists misrepresented the reality of the scene; at worst, they helped to reinforce some of its harmful power dynamics, which still favour white men above everyone else.”
The end of year polls have in recent times, had a significant influence on the fees that booking agents can command for DJs, which in turn has a dramatic impact on the development of the electronic scene globally, with a DJs stock often times measured on their position in the poll.
