English production duo Gorgon City have seen incredible success on their club-focused brand of UK house and deep house during the last 10 or so years. Alongside a list of achievements which includes placing at #4 on the UK singles chart, the pair have also produced music for names like Jess Glyne and Chris Brown, and have released a number of excellent studio albums with labels such as Black Butter Records, EMI, and Positiva. Their fourth long player dropped earlier this month
via Positiva and EMI, and brings a sound similar to their previous three – while also keeping things up to date and fresh at the same time. ‘Salvation’ delivers plenty of those big, round basslines that lovers of Gorgon City have come to know well, but there’s much more to the record if you dig a little deeper. Hints of garage, breaks, and jungle shine through at times, and the addition of more sustained basslines is a welcomed one. Some standout inclusions are the incredibly uplifting ‘Voodoo’, the introspective garage cut in ‘Wreckage’, and the rich, vibrant ‘City Of Angels’.
Where to start:
Voodoo: Driving house drums and playful top line hooks
A Lot Like Heaven: Snappy drum hits meets a big filtered bassline
City Of Angels: Energetic breaks sound with vocals from Jelani Blackman
