The follow up to Honey Dijon’s inaugural long player ‘The Best Of Both Worlds’ arrives as an energetic, star-studded affair which combines a slew of underground club sounds with a whopping 17 credited features. It’s house and disco at its core, though at times strays into the outer edges of swing, electro, jazz, and funk, and offers a no-holds barred look at one of dance musics finest talents in 2022. Fresh off working on Beyonce’s Renaissance project as a producer, Honey Dijon
brings her ‘Black Girl Magic’ LP to the world via a return to Luke Solomon and Derrick Carter’s Classic Music Company, where she has released regularly in the past. The album features a wealth of talented artists, with everyone from Channel Tres and Mike Dunn, to Dope Earth Alien and Pabllo Vittar making their way onto the tracklist. The Chicago-raised Dijon has been involved in some massive projects during her fruitful career, though ‘Black Girl Magic’ might be her most impressive so far. The free-flowing and fluid-like energy that oozes across the entire record is infectious and will almost instantly boost your mood. It’s packed to the brim with soulful vocal harmonies which are backed by rhythmic bassline rumbles and rich drum grooves that together will no doubt create some magical moments on dancefloors around the world.
Where to start:
Not About You: Catchy vocal alongside playful drum grooves & synth programming
La Femme Fantastique: Electro-tinged club sound with Josh Caffe’s hypnotic vocals
Work: Polished brass melodies, colourful percussion, and rhythmic basslines
