Philippe Aubin-Dionne’s musical journey as Jacques Greene has seen him release music on labels such as Night Slugs, Aus Music, !K7 and Ninja Tune. Though the imprint where he has released most of his work is London based output LuckyMe. Philippe recently returned to the label for the release of his brand new album, Dawn Chorus, which follows the release of his debut LP Feel Infinite that also came via LuckyMe. The record offers a dozen highly eclectic tracks that span a multitude of genres and styles,
including house, R’n’B, hiphop and downtempo electronica. Assistance on the production of the album comes from collaborations with Clams Casino and Machinedrum, while vocal efforts are supplied courtesy of Canadian singer Rochelle Jordan and rapper Cadence Weapon. Fans of UK-esque basslines and polished breakbeats should check out Serenity and Do It Without You, while tracks like Whenever and Understand venture down a more North American influenced route. All in it’s an excellent LP that has just two or three tracks that seem like tracklist fillers, and is a solid addition for Canadian electronic music.
Where to start:
‘Serenity’ – Heart warming synth harmonies explode through the speaker
‘Do It Without You’ – Euphoric drum breaks and gentle, pitched up vocals
