One of club music’s most active studio talents returns once more, as New York native MoMa Ready drops his third album of 2023. Titled ‘HEADLOCK’, the 9-track collection features a number of robust, energetic, and groove-heavy dance productions, which span everything from acid to deep tech. The project, which includes no credited features, comes via his own HAUS of ALTR imprint – which he runs alongside AceMo. His tracks have also come via labels such as Night Slugs and
Wokoundou in the past. If you’re a fan of tightly packed house drums, lean percussive grooves, filtered synth bass, and edgy stab sounds, then ‘HEADLOCK’ will be right up your street, and while it doesn’t possess any obvious, big radio-friendly hooks, it’s well measured in both tempo and quality. Standout tracks include ‘THE SWIRLY’, ‘THE DDT’, ‘TURNSTILE FUNK’, and ‘FAKE OPPS’, though we definitely recommend listening through the record from beginning to end.
