Nicolas Jaar has spent the majority of his adult life creating some of the most authentic and well appreciated records in electronic music. With his seminal debut album Space Is Only Noise being well praised by Pitchfork, The Guardian and Resident Advisor. Almost ten years later the Chilean-American producer has delivered soundtracks for feature films, released with Wolf + Lamb and R&S, and co-producer FKA Twigs’ Magdalene LP. He now brings a new full length studio album to his acclaimed
flagship moniker. Cenizas is a 13-track offering that aligns with Jaar’s desire for pristine sonic clarity, while also pursuing a sound that we have never really heard from him in the past, soft and ambient orchestral pieces are combined with bright guitar melodies and distorted vocals that together create an almost-spiritual listening experience, and one that is certainly deserving of your undivided attention. The more experimental inclusions such as Vacíar and Rubble will struggle to bring you back a second time, but cuts like Garden, Mud and Faith Made Of Silk are stripped back displays of creative mastery.
Where to start:
‘Cenizas’ – Ghastly vocal whispers and timid percussion
‘Garden’ – Uplifting piano melodies run free
‘Faith Made Of Silk’ – Brushing snare drums, tumbling percussion and chilling vocals
