For more than 20 years, Phil Kieran has had a fruitful career as a DJ, producer, remixer, and label boss, releasing his music with labels such as Cocoon Recordings, Hot Creations, and Relief, while championing sounds from names like Max Cooper, Dave Clarke, and Jamies Jones on his own Phil Kieran Recordings imprint. Despite his lengthy record of success, one area of the pool Phil has never dipped his toe into is producing music for film and TV, at least until now. The Irish artist’s latest body
of work finds him debut in the world of film scores, by way of the original soundtrack for new Belfast-based production ‘Nightride’. Across 12 original tracks, Phil channels the cities unique aura into a spread of techno, ambient, electro, and IDM sounds. From the slow churning ambience of ‘The Thief’ and ‘It’s All Gone Wrong’, to the exhilarating intensity of ‘Hells Bells’ and ‘Magic Shop Theme’, and everything in-between, it perfectly matches the thrilling visuals and adventurous storyline of the accompanying picture. What’s more impressive is that while the soundtrack fits so well with the movie, it’s a great album on its own, something that not all OST’s can manage. ‘Nightride Theme’, ’Troy’s Theme’, and ‘Magic Shop Theme’ are three tireless productions that we see doing damage in clubs, while the rest of the album offers a record that can be enjoyed in almost any environment.
Where to start:
Troy’s Theme: Big filtered basslines meet punchy drum grooves
Delorean Discord: Deeply planted drums and pulsing synth melodies
Magic Shop Theme: Intense synth work and tightly packed drum hits
