Grammy-nominated duo Röyksopp have delivered time and time again throughout the past two decades. Their music has come on a number of well respected record labels, though it’s without doubt their own Dog Triumph imprint where the majority of their best productions have been released, and the label has also hosted works from genre-topping artists such as Maceo Plex, ARTBAT, and Wolfgang Gartner. We’re almost at the end of 2022, and it’s been a particularly fruitful year for the
Norwegian two piece, having released not one, not two, but three full length studio albums. Their three volume ‘Profound Mysteries’ series debuted back in April, with the second edition landing in August, and the third and final volume now arriving this month. ‘Profound Mysteries III’ combines ten expertly produced tracks, which amass a run time of one hour, and dip their toe into everything from electronica and downtempo, to pop, and R&B. It’s a highly eclectic blend which at times seems too strong of a contrast to work, but the pair seem to pull it off with a fluid consistency that goes deeper than just surface level instruments and samples. In terms of features, it delivers. With Jamie Irrepressible, Susanne Sunder, Alison Goldfrapp, Astrid S, Pixx, and Maurissa Rose all credited amongst the song titles. Given it’s overly broad range of sounds, it’s not an album which can be pinpointed to any one environment or setting, though it’s more than worthy of your time, and will have a couple of tracks that will definitely find a place within a few different playlists.
Where to start:
Stay Awhile: Rhythmic basslines and one of the best vocals on the album
The Night: Chunky electro cut with dreamy vocals and elastic synth bass
Just Wanted To Know: Weighted drums and funky synth tones meet pop-tinged vocals
