More than two decades on from when the London-born music producer that is Skream was first involved in the pioneering UK-based movement which gave birth to what we now know as dubstep, we get the 8th volume of his ‘Skreamizm’ series. It comes more than 10 years after vol.7, so it’s a welcomed addition to the 2023 calendar, and in our opinion, one of the most impressive. Known as being an artist that’s never struggled to break free of genre boundaries, Skreamizm 8 delivers a
multicoloured melting pot that offers dubstep, breaks, grime, house, rave, jungle, and electronica. It’s an extremely eclectic record throughout, but is still held together by both Skream’s standout drum programming and that distinct UK ambiance which works especially well in bass music. Alongside features from Prospa, Bklava, Lagoon Wavey, and Trim, we’re also spoilt with uncredited vocal samples and a top line from Skream himself on the closing inclusion ‘Thinking Of You’.
