British electronic producer TSHA has become one of the most noteworthy producers of the past two years, thanks to gems like ‘Let You Go’ and ‘Sister’, which have a combined total of 26 million plays on Spotify. She also contributed to fabric’s ‘fabric presents’ compilation series earlier in 2022, and recently supported names like Disclosure, Flume, and Bob Moses on international tour dates. She welcomes the next chapter of her musical journey this month as she makes a return to UK
indie label Ninja Tune for the release of her very first studio album, ‘Capricorn Sun’. At a dozen tracks in total, the project includes previously released favourites such as ‘Sister’, and ‘OnlyL’, alongside a number of newly minted dance cuts. Features come in strong too, with credited collaborations including NIMMO, Clementine Douglas, Oumou Sangaré, and TSHA’s partner Mafro. If you’re a fan of the emotionally-charged, upbeat dance sound she’s brought to past works, then the album will serve you well as a whole. ‘The Light’ brings softened piano melodies and pitched up vocal work, ‘Giving Up’ pushes high energy bass stabs and gritty drum breaks, and ‘Water’ combines tribal rhythms with colourful melodies and warm percussive knocks. Out of the 12 tracks, there’s maybe two we could do without, and that’s only really because they’re being compared to the rest of the pack. It’s a big statement for TSHA’s future intentions, and is definitely amongst our top picks for 2022.
Where to start:
Sister: Colourful melodies, beautiful vocal and vibrant basslines
OnlyL: Energetic synth bass meets a touching vocal from NIMMO
Giving Up: Strong bass tones, emotional topline, and shimmering drum rhythms
