Let's Talk: Sasha Carassi

Sasha Carassi has been a staple of Italian club culture for almost three decades, outlasting short lived gimmicks and cheap trends that many artists find themselves fall victim to.

More recently he’s released music with some of house and techno’s most respected record labels, with his tracks coming via the likes of Bedrock Records, Diynamic, and Knee Deep In Sound.

We spoke to him this month where we got to ask him all about his latest single ‘Ametista’, his advice for other aspiring artists, and what else we might hear from him later on in 2024. Read the full interview with Sasha Carassi below.

How are things in the life of Sasha Carassi right now?

Things are going well right now, my personal life is full of love and I’m so grateful for that and my professional life as well, even if it’s always a challenge for me. I love experimenting and trying things that I’ve never tried before and this is evident in my productions, always in progress, obviously not forgetting where I come from and never losing my identity.

Let’s talk about your new single ‘Ametista’, how did the track come together in the studio?

The original mix was born during lockdown, a period which I have probably made the most intimate and visceral productions of my life, a new me, deeper than the previous one. My main aim is to guide the listener through my journey, a journey of my emotions. It was released one year ago on Renaissance and after one year I felt the necessity to give to ‘Ametista’ my 4/4 reinterpretation, to celebrate the 100th release of the label.

You’ve previously released tracks on Diynamic and Bedrock, what advice would you give to other artists that want to release on these kinds of labels?

Productions are a way to show who you are, to convey feelings, to free your ideas and inspirations. I love spending a lot of time in the studio and I love producing, with no plans, no rules. So, advice I can give to aspiring artists is only to be original and don’t follow stereotypes. The production is an ongoing process. We just have to be driven by our emotions and not think for which label your track could fit, as in this way the production will become “artificial” and not natural.

And which other labels can we expect to see you on in the near future?

I’ve another release on Bedrock at the end of February and an EP on Adam Beyer’s Truesoul, with other things still in discussion.

What goals have you set yourself for 2024?

I hope to finish an album, let’s see, I prefer to not reveal too much – I’m superstitious.

What’s one club or festival you’re looking forward to playing this year?

I don’t know, I’m looking forward to playing in Napoli again, my city, where I have my own party.

Is there anything else you want to add before we go?

Yes, about my label ILINX, I have scheduled some very interesting releases from young and talented artists and obviously expect something from me. It was a pleasure, thanks for having me!

Sasha Carassi – Ametista (Reinterpretation) is out now on Renaissance Records.
