Spotify will launch in South Africa this month

Spotify have issued an invite to journalists to attend an announcement event in Johannesburg on March 13. The invite read: “Spotify has some news to share. Please join us on Tuesday, 13th March to catch all the details.”

The streaming company also posted an ad for a content editor related to South African content. – “We are looking for a broadly experienced Sr. Editor/Music Programmer to join Spotify’s Shows and Editorial team, responsible for South Africa. You will identify and curate first rate music playlist listening and programming experiences for a multitude of our moods, moments, and genres, demonstrate a passion for performance-oriented analytics, and will have your ear to the ground in the music community, focusing on South Africa.”

South African Spotify users have previously been able to use the streaming service via the use of a VPN, a tool which allows you to connect to a public network privately, hiding your location and IP address. From March 13 this will hopefully not be needed.
