Five Tracks: Coyu

Barcelona-based DJ, producer, remixer, label boss and charity founder Coyu has already seen more success in the past few years than most could hope to achieve across a full career.

His music has come on Filth On Acid, Drumcode, Defected and Stil Vor Talent, and his own Suara imprint has become one of Spain’s top labels, thanks to tracks from Charlotte De Witte, Hans Bouffmyhre and Alan Fitzpatrick.

This months edition of Five Tracks finds Coyu share a couple of electro-tipped cuts from artists such as Blixaboy, Negroni Nails, Luke Eargoggle, Hardfloor, Egyptian Lover and himself. Get the full list, including words from Coyu, below.

Blixaboy – Transdimensional Rifts
Label: Fanzine Records

I have to say that I have never been a proper big fan of electro, till now. I got addicted to it not too long ago and this track is one of my favs. Very Detroit-ish. Something I would have loved to play at the Movement Detroit after parties this year.

Hardfloor – Pelf (Hardfloor Vs. DBS Ft. Egyptian Lover)
Label: Hardfloor

Two legends on their own, the acidic Hardfloor and the trippy electro of Egyptian Lover together. A masterpiece that only 100 fortunate vinyl collectors have. Unfortunately I only have a digital copy but it’s enough to still get obsessed and play it all the time!

Luke Eargoggle – The Mechanic Priest
Label: Bunker Records

Electro again. Sorry not sorry. This time a track I heard for the first time in 2005 from a CD which I got with a Spanish magazine called Dancedelux. Craig Richards did a mix with tracks from John Tejada or Villalobos. Simple killer groove, seductive robotic voice.

Coyu – Technostalgia
Label: Suara

Sorry, I know it’s one of my own tracks but I think it’s one of my best ones to date. Simple and effective Detroit techno groover that fits in almost every kind of DJ set.

Negroni Nails – White Matter
Label: Klakson

A fast pace jackin’ and electro-esque techno missile with booty vocals that always puts me in the right mood. I want to start jumping when I hear this track!

Coyu’s Technostalgia EP is out now on Suara Music.
