Five Tracks: The Mekanism

Releases with imprints such as Needwant, Saved Records, 20/20 Vision and Circus Recordings have put French house producer The Mekanism on an upward trajectory that most emerging artists only aspire to.

The Parisian talent has also climbed to impressive heights in the world of DJing, with previous tour dates including shows at Hï Ibiza, The Steelyard in London and Amsterdam club Shelter.

Taking care of our latest Five Tracks, The Mekanism selects his favourite classic house anthems, with inclusions from Sebastian Leger, Eglatine and Fafa Monteco among others.

Sebastian Leger – Seems So Far
Barclay Records

This one is a very famous and classic track so I couldn’t not talk about this one… I spent all of my youth as a DJ playing this track. The original sample was from Drizabone feat. Kymberley Peer, and he sampled a whole chorus he produced afterwards. On a perfect French house beat and with some flanger, the result is priceless.

Eglantine – Shepper
Serial Records

This came out in 1997, and the melody produces another track that makes us totally travel and features no samples. This recurrent melody is composed of two melodies that respond with delay, which creates this psychedelic effect. The bass adds an aggressive side that makes the song more club, accompanied by a progressive trance beat. Totally amazing!

Johnick – Music Take You High
AV8 Records

This makes me think about loving memories of my youth, this track is absolutely beautiful sampled from Freddie James (1979). Johnick did a perfect re-adaptation by keeping some of the chorus and adding waves effects reminding us of the sea and the beach. He wanted to make us travel, and he managed to magnificently!

Johnny Corporate – Groove Me
4th Floor Records

Released in the 2000’s, this track is a perfect classic house one!!! He used two sounds, a disco instrumental that comes from Miracles – Changes, and Roshelle Fleming’s vocal. Both assemblies work perfectly. To add some vibe he put after a line of sax, which added a magical element of cool jam to complete the track.

Fafa Monteco – Get Away
Blackjack Records

Fafa Monteco was one of the members of Superfunk … he is an incredible producer and a great guy who gave me some tips to become a DJ (I used to support him when I played for his residency Hypnotic Party in Paris). In this track, he used perfectly the way to play with loops, sampling from Central line, to get this super sexy and happy classic track. (one part with only the beat, and another part with the vocal pitched). It’s what we called Frenchtouch!!!
