Fur Coat

Few artists have shaped the melodic house and techno sound quite like Fur Coat. The project of Venezuelan-born, Barcelona-based producer Sergio Muñoz has become synonymous with emotive club music, earning releases on labels including Crosstown Rebels, Renaissance, Watergate, Sasha’s Last Night On Earth and his own Oddity Records. His latest release sees him reunite with Barcelona-based producer ELIF on the two-track EP Hold Me Close, delivering two atmospheric cuts that continue his signature blend of emotion and groove.

Behind the acclaimed productions and international touring schedule, however, Muñoz’s journey began much closer to home. Music was part of everyday life growing up in Venezuela, thanks to his father, who first introduced him to DJing.

“I was always involved in music. I started mixing since I was really young with my dad, just for fun.”

What started as playing at small parties eventually evolved into a career that has taken him around the world. But as Fur Coat explains, life as a touring artist comes with realities that fans rarely see.

“There’s a lot of sacrifices in the industry that people don’t see,” he says, reflecting on over 16 years on the road.

Missing weddings, birthdays and countless moments with family became part of the job, but becoming a father has transformed his perspective.

“Before I could sleep after coming back from a tour, but now I have a daughter, so there’s an alarm clock every day at 6:00am — feels like an after party.”

That shift has reinforced the importance of maintaining balance between studio work, touring and personal life. For Sergio, longevity in electronic music isn’t just about making great records, it’s about looking after yourself.

Alongside his work as Fur Coat, he also runs Oddity Records, continuing to champion melodic electronic music while supporting emerging talent. His advice to aspiring producers remains refreshingly straightforward: embrace today’s digital opportunities, but never lose sight of what matters most.

“Nowadays you have the internet, you have SoundCloud, you have so many things that it’s easier to connect without even traveling… but always focus on the music,” he explains.

That philosophy continues to define his own career. His recent collaboration with ELIF, Hold Me Close, released via Sasha’s Last Night On Earth, showcases the emotional depth and melodic sophistication that have become hallmarks of the Fur Coat sound. Featuring the title track alongside “Took My Time,” the EP demonstrates why he remains one of melodic house’s most respected producers continuing to evolve while staying true to himself and his values.
