Interview: Stijn Vandensande debuts on Throne Room Records

Antwerp-based DJ and producer Stijn Vandensande makes his inaugural outing with UK techno label Throne Room Records.

Collaborating with Italian Besty Fritz for original track ‘Assassin’s Club’ – Stijn brings a robust and highly driven club track that fits right at home amongst the Throne Room Records catalogue.

We spoke to the Belgian recently, where we got to ask him all about the new track, what he’s aiming for in 2025 as an artist – and more. Read the full interview below.

How is life in Belgium for you right now?

Life in Antwerp is going great, but it’s definitely been a busy time lately! I’ve got a lot going on right now with my new work, managing a label, and, of course, still producing music. On top of that, I recently moved into a new apartment, so it’s been a bit of a whirlwind. But I’m really grateful for all the opportunities that have come my way. I also have to thank my close friends and family for their constant support! Without them, none of this would be possible. They’re always there for me, and that means the world.

Did 2024 meet your expectations as an artist?

Absolutely! 2024 was a year of growth for me. I got to release some tracks, especially the collaborative ‘Timeless’ EP with Devid Dega (IT) on Ratis Records, I’m really proud of! it. I’ve received support from Veerus and Joseph Capriati who approved the ‘Timeless (BAK IT Remix)’ at Awakenings, During ADE in Gashouder. Further, I became the label manager from Throne Room Records and was able to perform at a festival and a few venues. Of course, there’s always more to strive for, but looking back I can say it was a successful year. It was a perfect mix of challenges and accomplishments.

You kick 2025 off strongly with a new single on Throne Room Records titled ‘Assassin’s Club’ – talk us through how the track came together in the studio?

‘Assassin’s Club’ is a powerful collaboration with Besty Fritz (IT). It started with a simple idea I had while experimenting with some darker, more atmospheric sounds. I wanted to create something that had intensity and drive but still maintained that groove and energy that I love in techno. I spent a lot of time perfecting the build-ups and drops, to make sure the track would hit hard on the dancefloor. All this combined with the expertise of Besty Fritz, resulted into ‘Assassin’s Club’. The collaboration was a fun process, and I’m really happy with how it turned out. I think it’s one of those tracks that just clicks when you hear it played live in a club.

You’ve also released music with Shodan Records and Xperiment Records, where else might we expect to see you release in the near future?

In the past I released on Throne Room Records, Ratis Records, Redlof, GAIN Records, Xperiment, and just made my debut with a remix for Devid Dega on Extima Records. Further, I’ve more music releases scheduled in 2025 and more exciting collaborations in the works. You can expect driving peaktime and hypnotic, groovy techno music.

And what other goals have you set for yourself in 2025?

2025 is all about pushing boundaries for me: both in the studio and as a performer. I’m focused on continuing to develop my sound and making music that really connects with people. Live performances are something I’m really passionate about, so I want to play at more festivals and clubs this year, and take my sound to new places. Also, I want to start collaborating more with other artists and producers. There’s always room to learn and grow, so that’s a big goal for me as an artist.

For my role as label manager, I want to schedule quality music releases and explore and sign new artists (there are still spots left for our 10 years of Throne Room Records VA, scheduled for July 2025) and organise a label showcase event with some of our resident artists.

Something non-music related that you’re looking forward to this year?

Something non-music related that I’m looking forward to this year is my new challenge with New Balance! Alongside being an artist, producer, DJ, and label manager, I’ve also got a full-time day job. As an open-minded person who loves to learn, it felt like the right time to take on something new. I’m excited to join the team at the first New Balance store in Belgium, located in Antwerp! I’m also reaching another milestone and turning 30 this year. So far, 2025 is looking bright and will be an exciting year with new opportunities, fresh challenges, and a milestone birthday!

Anything else you want to mention before we go?

Always keep your head up, Turn negatives into positives, believe in yourself and do something you like, are powerful principles to live by. These things really help to stay motivated, no matter what challenges come your way.
