Interview: Creeps

Emerging Dutch house talent Creeps follows up a run of previous releases on Municipal Recordings with his debut outing for Oliver Heldens’ esteemed OH2 Records.

The release brings Creeps bespoke take on Midnight In Amsterdam’s ‘Trust’ original – complete with elastic mid bass tones, chopped up vocal rhythms, and chunky club drums.

We spoke to the Rotterdam-based producer about how he approached the remix in the studio, what else he might have coming to our feeds in the near future, and more. Read the full interview below.

Hi Stefan, how are things for you over in Rotterdam right now?

Things are going great! I’m finishing up my degree in advanced music production at the Herman Brood Academy, and I’m working up to some really exciting news!

You recently dropped a new remix of Midnight In Amsterdam’s ‘Trust’ on OH2 Records, how did you approach the project in the studio?

When I first received the parts, I carefully listened to each individual sound to see what had potential to use in the remix. I also started by analysing some other house remixes of songs in other genres, to see what they did.

What are some of the main ways a remix differs from an original studio project?

The main idea for the remix was that it needed to be a track ready for the dancefloor, that was full of energy but still kept the vibe of the original.

What’s one track from any genre you would love to have the chance to remix?

I don’t know how I would approach it, but I would love to do a remix for Jamming by Bob Marley, or something by UB40. I grew up with lots of artists like them, and it would be an honor to do something like that one day.

Your edit of ‘Trust’ has seen support from some massive names – including Mark Knight, Fedde Le Grand, and Martin Garrix – that must be really motivating?

Yeah 100%! It’s really cool to see your childhood heroes support something you made. Definitely a really cool moment in my career.

Alongside OH2 Records you’ve also released on Municipal Recordings quite a bit, which other labels might we see you on in the near future?

I can’t tell you that yet! But expect some really cool things coming. A bit more deep, housey, and a little bit more underground.

Is there anything else you want to talk about before we go?

I’m working on something really cool that’s going to come out somewhere in the coming three months. So if anyone is curious, make sure to follow me on my socials so you don’t miss it.
