Interview: Panfil & Rubh

Chicago-based two piece Panfil & Rubh debuted on Materialism last month with a brand new EP titled ‘I Like’, adding to a catalog which already includes labels such as Farris Wheel and Hot Fuss.

We spoke to the pair to ask them about the new tracks, what else we might hear from them soon, and how 2024 has been for them both. Read the full discussion below.

You’re on our Inflyte Radar this month – tell our readers what you’ve been getting up to recently?

We recently played two shows in our hometown of Chicago, including a sold-out performance at Prysm Nightclub with AYYBO. We’ve also been hard at work in the studio, putting the finishing touches on a couple of tracks we’re pumped to debut in the new year.

You debuted on Materialism with your new ‘I Like’ EP at the start of November – talk us through the two tracks included on the release?

We first completed ‘I Like’ last year and debuted it in November 2024 at Concord Music Hall with Mau P. The track has a minimal vibe, built around the vocals to create a more stripped down sound. Wanting the release to connect and appeal to a broader audience, we followed it up with ‘Flexin’, which has a groovier, funkier feel to it. Releasing two tracks with distinct vibes felt like the perfect approach for this release.

We’ve seen you release music on record labels such as Hot Fuss and Farris Wheel in the past, what’s been your typical process in getting music signed?

When we finish a track or EP, we consider which label would be the best fit for the release. Sometimes we’re lucky enough to have a direct contact at the label, allowing us to send it directly. Otherwise, we submit it through the label’s promo email or platforms like Trackstack.

And which other labels might we expect to see you release with soon?

We just wrapped up a couple of tracks this past week, and are hoping to release on one of the labels we have released on before. Additionally, we’ve been brainstorming ideas for our own label, which we plan to launch soon. Stay tuned – we’re aiming to have our first release out sometime in 2025!

What was one thing that pleasantly surprised you in 2024?

We’d say the support and love we’ve received this year from our hometown of Chicago has been one of the highlights. Since our February release on the Chicago-based label Farris Wheel, we’ve seen an overwhelming amount of support from DJs. We’ve always heard that the local market can be the hardest to break into, so we’re beyond excited and grateful for all the love we’ve gotten this year.

And something you’re hopeful about in 2025?

In 2025, we’re aiming to keep growing as artists and expand our fanbase globally. We’re focused on getting as many releases out as possible, and as mentioned, we’re excited to launch our own label.

Is there anything else you want to talk about before we go?

We just want to take a moment to thank everyone who supports our music and tunes into our monthly podcast, House Fluent Radio. A huge shoutout to everyone who’s come out to vibe with us at our shows, as well as all the DJs, radio stations, and platforms that have premiered our tracks. We truly appreciate all the love and support, and we’re excited to see what the future holds.
