Mark Broom might not be one of the most obvious names on the list of techno DJs in 2021, though for multiple decades he’s been a seminal part of the UK’s techno scene, and has released his music on some of the genre’s most renowned record labels. Every imprint from Cocoon and Warp Records, to Anjunadeep, and Bpitch Control has had the pleasure of hosting his music, and his latest finds him return to Rekids for the release of his new “Fünfzig LP”. The Radio Slave owned Rekids is no stranger
to Broom’s sound, with him having dropped many tracks on their main label, and RSPX sister imprint over the years. Across the 12-long tracklist on Fünfzig, we’re treated to a sonic melting pot of house, techno, disco, and dub, with the records overall style leaning toward the heavy set, filter heavy blend that Mark Broom fans with be all too familiar with. “EFX” takes things down the rabbit hole of acid techno, before “Dub Me Good” and “Lovers Rock” take us to a more gentle place of dub rhythms and stripped back drum grooves. “The 114” and “What To Do” finish the record off strong with big and bold tech drums, which are no doubt destined to soundtrack many dancefloors in the near future. Speaking about the project, Mark added “Fünfzig is a continuation of my previous releases for Rekids & displays my various styles of House, Techno & the bits in-between”.
Where to start:
Let’s Roll: Deep, dark, and destructive techno banger
Memories: Peak time synth roller with plenty of energetic punch
What To Do: Massive tech grooves and funky sampled hooks
